Introducing our Interim Executive Director

Jim Ayres is the Principal Consultant of Ayres Keystone Strategies, an organizational development consulting practice that works with a wide variety of nonprofits, private foundations, and for-profit service providers.


In 2024, Jim facilitated the development of Berkshire Immigrant Center’s strategic plan, giving him a strong grounding in the Center’s mission, vision, and priorities.

Jim specializes in consultation, coaching, strategic planning, interim leadership, and capacity-building support for organizations serving immigrant, refugee, and migrant communities, as well as those in early care and education, basic needs, and family support. Prior to consulting, Jim held over twenty-five years of executive leadership roles with Community Foundations, United Ways, and direct service organizations, including twelve years as Executive Director of the Center for New Americans in Northampton, MA.

In addition, Jim has taught graduate-level courses in Strategic Decision-Making and Financial Decision-Making for Nonprofits. He holds master’s degrees in business administration (with a focus on nonprofit management) and global affairs (with a focus on non-governmental organizations). Over the course of his career, Jim has also served as a consultant to, chair of, and member of numerous nonprofit and public boards, each with its own distinctive goals and culture.
