Citizenship Classes
Former Education Director Jennifer Smith helping a student prepare for their naturalization interview.
BIC provides free citizenship classes to help students prepare for their naturalization interviews. These classes cover all of the skills applicants need to succeed at their interviews.
Classes are held in a variety of formats, including small groups, individual sessions, and virtual meetings. Each class meets once per week and is tailored to the individual needs of students. Hours are flexible to accommodate student work schedules.
Groups engage with the material from many angles to keep classes fun and build connections that make the facts easier to remember on interview day.
Prepare for all parts of the naturalization interview:
Civics Test: Learn about US history and government and practice answering the 128 questions.
Reading Test: Practice properly pronouncing each word on the USCIS reading vocabulary list and reading sample sentences that are often used in the interview.
Writing Test: Practice understanding and spelling each word on the USCIS writing vocabulary list and writing sample sentences.
Speaking Test: Build your English conversation skills! Practice answering questions about yourself and your family that USCIS officers frequently ask.
Learn through a variety of activities.
Take turns reading aloud from a civics workbook
Complete written practice exercises
Participate in open-ended conversations in English
Organize information through hands-on activities with visual memory aids
Share and learn memory tricks from peers through interactive practice games
Test out all of your skills in mock interviews
Meet with a volunteer tutor for additional weekly practice sessions (optional)
