Community Message | BIC Welcomes Dr. Evelyn Thompson as Executive Director
We are pleased to share that BIC will welcome Dr. Evelyn Thompson as our new Executive Director.
A Pittsfield native, Dr. Thompson returns to the Berkshires with extensive experience in public policy, education, workforce development, nonprofit leadership, civic engagement, and community advocacy. Her work has centered on expanding access, reducing barriers, building trust across communities, and supporting people and families through moments of transition and uncertainty.
Dr. Thompson’s background closely aligns with BIC’s mission to help immigrants and families navigate complex systems, access legal support and community resources, and move forward with a clearer understanding of their options. Her leadership is anchored in mindfulness, deep listening, trust-building, and respect — an approach that reflects the care at the heart of BIC’s work with immigrants and families navigating uncertainty and change.
“What drew me to BIC was the mission, the people, and the opportunity to come home and be of service. BIC brings together so much of what has shaped my life and work: service, education, advocacy, community, and a belief in every person’s dignity, belonging, and potential.”
BIC also extends deep gratitude to Melissa Canavan, who served as Executive Director from May 2023 through June 2026 and helped guide BIC through an important period of organizational growth.
We are excited to welcome Dr. Thompson home to the Berkshires and into this next chapter of BIC’s work supporting immigrants and families across our region. Her leadership will begin in mid-September.
