Community Message | Executive Director Transition

A message from Melissa Canavan, BIC's Executive Director:

After three years as Executive Director of Berkshire Immigrant Center, I will be stepping down from my role at the end of May. This decision comes as my family prepares for a move to New York City, and while it is not easy to step away from work that has meant so much to me, I do so with great confidence in BIC’s future.

Serving in this role has been a privilege. I have been proud to work alongside an exceptional staff, a deeply committed Board, dedicated volunteers, and a generous community of partners and supporters.

Together, we have reached significant milestones that have transformed BIC, including our transition to an independent 501(c)(3), a move to a new office, expanded staffing and services, and the continued growth in support needed to advance our mission.

I want to reassure you that BIC is in a position of remarkable strength. I am so grateful to our staff and Board; their partnership and expertise are the reasons I know the organization is in very good hands. We have spent the last several years building the internal systems and operational depth necessary to ensure that BIC remains a stable and trusted resource for immigrant families across the Berkshires, regardless of leadership changes.

I leave knowing that BIC is led by a resilient team who will continue to provide support, advocacy, and care for immigrant individuals and families. Thank you for your partnership and commitment. It has meant a great deal to me personally, and it is the fuel that will continue to drive BIC’s vital work forward.

With gratitude,

Melissa
