At BIC, “for all” includes Lucía*. Lucía was determined to become a citizen — and we were determined to help her succeed.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Lucía faced serious health challenges. By the time she was ready for her citizenship test, her health had declined so much that she needed a wheelchair and couldn’t even hold a pencil. Our staff worked with her doctor to get a medical exception to ease the most difficult parts of her citizenship test.
With our help, she passed her test and watched with pride as her daughter — a US citizen — took the Oath of Allegiance on her behalf.
Today, Lucía is a proud US citizen. Her family now has the peace of mind that comes from security and belonging.
They have the time to cherish what matters most: each other.
